Cold sores, very close to genital herpes: mode of contagion and treatment

The herpes simplex virus has two outbreaks, HSV-1 and HSV-2. The first is the cause of cold sores, which is contracted by sharing elements of daily intimate hygiene such as a toothbrush or razor, and HSV-2, the genital herpes virus. It is quite common for the cold sore virus to cause genital herpes after infection through oral sex.

It manifests as small blisters that burst and become itchy and burning ulcers, these are commonly called cold sores.

Symptoms of cold sores

Not all infected people have symptoms as soon as they have come into contact with the virus, and the first symptoms usually appear between one and three weeks later.

The main symptoms are:

  • Itching, burning and tingling in the area around the mouth.
  • Fever, sore throat, swollen glands
  • Appearance of blisters in the mouth, gums, lips, and even throat.

On many occasions the outbreaks appear at certain times, such as in feverish states, when our period is about to come, with stress or when we spend sunbathing.

Cold sore treatment

  1. When we suffer from one of these outbreaks, in a couple of weeks, the symptoms will disappear on their ownIf this is not the case, it is necessary to go to the doctor to prescribe continuous treatment for our condition.
  2. There are many creams or clear strips that help blisters and sores go away more quickly. For this it is important to start applying the treatment when we begin to notice the symptoms, before getting to have any little wound.
  3. If we find that it is too late to start a preventive treatment, there are some tricks that can alleviate this discomfort. Rinse your mouth with salt water, drink cold water or avoid eating spicy food, will help us cope with the annoying symptoms.
